This post highlights 31 fun activities for your October bucket list.
I’m an October baby, so, needless to say, I adore everything about this month, particularly the spooky element. Once fall rolls around, I am literally counting down to Halloween.
A few months ago, I wrote a bucket list post filled with ideas for how to spend the summer.
So, I thought it would be cool to do the same thing here.
With that said, in this post, I am detailing 31 exciting activities you can add to your October bucket list because I can’t be the only one who loves this month, right?
October Bucket List
This October bucket list includes 31 activities that you can try for each day of this month.
While the items below are meant to be enjoyable, they also serve to support different aspects of your self-care.
During the fall months, our hormones start to change, which can leave us feeling physically and emotionally drained.
This list helps combat that by providing an outlet and giving you space to focus on yourself. As you go through ideas, take the ones that resonate with you and swap out the rest.
Or, if you like it, do the whole thing. But above all else, just have fun with it!
1. Make an October-inspired playlist
When choosing songs for your October playlist, don’t feel like you have to stick to one genre. Choose music that captures the vibe you’re going for. I love adding spooky songs that remind me of Halloween, but you might prefer melodies that surround you with the essence of fall.
2. Decorate your house for the season
I used to not love decorating, but it can actually be a lot of fun. It gives you a chance to use your imagination and brings the season to life around you. Plus, it makes everyday life just a little more interesting.
3. Try a fall meditation with natural objects
Incorporating the season into your meditation can help you lean into the practice and boost mindfulness. Use different textures, smells, and colors of fall, such as leaves, pinecones, or pumpkins.
4. Visit a pumpkin patch
Pumpkin patches are a great way to get outside and soak up October. They’re especially fun with friends or family, and you can even make a game out of picking the best-looking pumpkin.
5. Carve or paint pumpkins
After you’ve picked the perfect pumpkin, get creative by carving or painting it. This sparks creativity, helps you spend time with loved ones, and you could even make it into a contest.
6. Take a moonlit mindful walk
I love full moons! They’re iconic and practically synonymous with October and Halloween. Take a night walk under the moonlight. Breathe in the fresh air, notice the sounds, and maybe even enjoy the scary shadows.
7. Go candle making
If you love candles, why not make your own? Pick your colors and shapes, and mix in fall-inspired scents like apple, pumpkin, or cedarwood.
8. Make a “spooky snack board”
Snacks are always fun, but you can make them extra special by using fall foods and candies. Try arranging them into Halloween shapes like ghosts, witches, or bats.
9. Make a seasonal scent jar
Combine natural fall scents like cinnamon sticks, cloves, orange peels, and dried leaves for a homemade seasonal aroma.
10. Light your October wishes
This is especially magical for kids. At night, write down a wish, intention, or goal on a small piece of flammable paper. Then light it and watch it vanish, trusting your wish will find its way.
11. Go on a scenic drive
Use your October bucket list as an excuse to admire the fall atmosphere around you. Bring a camera to capture the changing leaves and cozy scenery.
12. Try a new café
Can’t you just hear that pumpkin spice or chai latte calling your name? Grab a friend and visit a café you’ve never tried before.
13. Design a Halloween costume
Instead of buying one this year, why not make your own? It’s a creative way to express yourself and maybe even discover a new skill.
14. Try candlelight writing
Fun fact: many of us think best in dim light. Try writing by candlelight and see where your imagination takes you.
15. Attend a local fall festival or fair
Local events are a great way to connect with your community. Enjoy rides, food, games, and other seasonal fun.
16. Visit a haunted house
One of my favorites! Book a haunted house tour and see if you can spot a ghost. Even if you don’t, you’ll enjoy the creepy stories and atmosphere. Don’t forget to bring a friend—it’s scarier (and more fun) together.
17. Write a Halloween short story or poem
Use October as inspiration to write something chilling, cozy, or magical. Share it with friends or keep it as a seasonal tradition.
18. Have a cozy reading day
Dedicate a whole day to reading. Pick a fall-inspired story, curl up with a blanket, and let your mind relax.
19. Try outdoor yoga in a leaf-covered park
Embrace the crisp air and seasonal colors by practicing yoga outside. It’s a great way to be mindful and present.
20. Do an October palette photoshoot
Capture the beauty of the season by taking photos with fall colors, pumpkins, and cozy textures.
21. Try a new autumn recipe
Experiment in the kitchen with seasonal ingredients. Bake pumpkin muffins, make apple cider donuts, or try a cozy soup.
22. Go apple picking
Spend a crisp day outdoors gathering apples. Bonus: you’ll have plenty for baking when you get home.
23. Host a board game night
Invite friends or family over for an evening of games. Go with an old favorite or try something new.
24. Host a spooky storytelling night
Pick a campsite, backyard fire pit, or candlelit living room. Take turns telling ghost stories for an extra paranormal vibe.
25. Make a gratitude jar with friends or family
Leading up to Thanksgiving, start a jar where everyone adds notes of gratitude. It’s a simple way to focus on what matters most.
26. Go on a hayride
Take a ride through a local farm or orchard. Enjoy the crisp air, colorful leaves, and fall scenery.
27. Join a town ghost tour
Many towns offer ghost tours on foot, by bus, or even by train. It’s a fun way to dive into local history with a supernatural twist.
28. Watch classic Halloween movies
Pop the popcorn, grab blankets, and have a Halloween movie marathon. If you have a projector, try watching outdoors for an extra festive feel.
29. Make a firefly jar (LED version)
If you can’t catch real fireflies, recreate the magic with LED lights in a jar for cozy autumn evenings.
30. Host a cozy Halloween pajama night
Invite friends over, wear PJs, watch movies, and snack all night. Low effort, maximum fun.
31. Go to a Halloween celebration
End the month with a bang by dressing up, partying with friends, or joining a community event. It’s the perfect way to wrap up October.
